Yes, at The Climbing Experience we believe anyone and everyone can climb! There is a minimum age requirement of 3, with a minimum weight of 10kg. The maximum weight to climb our Fun Walls is 120kg. We must be made aware of any medical conditions or injuries that might impact you or your child's ability to climb.
If you contact us beforehand, we can discuss their requirements and if possible, make suitable arrangements to accommodate them.
Yes, you can just book a session. Or you’re welcome to come along and check it out beforehand if you’d prefer. Each session lasts an hour and a half. This includes a full safety briefing and instructions. Each person is clipped in to their harness for each climb. When they are ready to come down or they fall off the challenge, the autobelay system will gently lower them down to the ground.

No, our instructors will supervise your child during the session. There are viewing areas in our cafe where you can watch your child from a distance.
There are busy times of course. These tend to be at the weekends and during half-term and school holidays. Our Online Booking System will indicate if a session has free space. Please contact us if you would like further advice on when to come.
You should wear comfortable clothing that is not too tight and clean shoes with grippy soles e,g trainers. It is recommended that you do not wear crop tops or very short shorts as this is unsuitable for using our harnesses. No jewellery is to be worn except small ear studs. All equipment is provided.
Spectators are more than welcome to take pictures of climbers within their group. We do ask that you are sensitive to other climbers and focus on those climbers in your party. Climbers are advised not to carry a phone or camera on them whilst they climb. Phones or other devices can become a hazard to other climbers if they fall out of pockets – they may also get damaged.
Climbing on the fun wall
Yes, the fun wall is extremely safe. There is a safety briefing before each session, our auto-belays are thoroughly tested and maintained and there is a member of staff present at all times.
Our staff are all climbers and are there to provide helpful tips, hints and challenges. There is no formal climbing instruction on the fun wall.
The fun wall challenges reach to around 6 metres.
You may leave a water bottle at the side of the climbing area but it should not be taken on to the climbing matting and certainly not carried on your person. If you are feeling thirsty, you can alert a member of staff. There are free filtered water dispensers throughout the centre and drinks can be purchased in the café.
You can climb alone but it is more fun to climb with friends so you can challenge each other. There are likely to be other people sharing your session with you. There are 15 challenges in all so there is plenty for everyone.
The challenges are not designed to be overly difficult, but this will depend on your age and physical agility. Each challenge has a number of approaches, designed to make it harder each time.
Bouldering is a form of rock climbing where you climb above safety matting, without a rope or harness. The idea is to climb a set route of climbing holds up the wall. The routes range in difficulty from easy to very difficult, so anyone can give it a try, no matter their ability. It is the most social form of rock climbing and is easy to start as it doesn’t require much equipment. It is good exercise both physically and mentally; training strength, skill, technique and your brain. Bouldering is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK and made its debut in the most recent Olympic Games
Bouldering is a strenuous sport but there are various grades of difficulty that are clearly marked by colours, so you can start with the easiest. Anyone can try, but you should possess a reasonable level of fitness if you don’t want to become tired too quickly.
Not at all. Beginners are welcome and we offer intro sessions and courses of instruction for those who are new to bouldering or who want to improve. Anyone can climb; it is in our nature after all!
The only thing you will need is a pair of climbing shoes. These can be hired at reception. You may also want some chalk for your hands which can also be hired.
Sports clothing is best, you want to be able to move freely. Tight jeans are not recommended. You may want to consider different layers so that you can remove clothing as you warm up. Bouldering is strenuous exercise and you can get warm quite quickly. Many people opt to wear gym type clothing.
If I've climbed before at another centre, but not at The Climbing Experience, do I still need to do an induction?
No, if you've got previously climbing experience, we'll just ask you a few bouldering safety questions and then you'll be free to climb and to supervise other novice climbers and under 16's.
If you are new to climbing, we do recommend booking an "intro to bouldering" sessions. This can be done online or over the phone. If you have climbed before, or wish to watch our safety video instead, no booking is necessary
It is best to book in advance so you can be sure there is space on the fun wall or on our courses. You do not need to book beforehand if you simply want to come and boulder.

Absolutely. The fun wall is a great place for a party or event. Let us know what you are thinking and we can tailor the party to suit you.
You may cancel your booking up to 48 hours before the session (7 days for parties and group lessons). We will either provide you with a full refund or issue you with a voucher (depending on the conditions of the original booking) which can be used at a later date. If you need to cancel or re-book your session, please call our reception team on 01622 677 977.
In the event you fail to turn up for a session and have not provided any advance warning, your slot will be forfeited with no refund.
For children’s parties and school bookings, if you wish to cancel (or amend) your booking, you must do so up to 7 days before the booking start time. After this time, no refunds/transfers will be permitted. For all other types of booking or venue hire, separate cancellation terms apply. This information will be provided at the time of your enquiry.
Yes, of course. You can watch from the floor in the Fun wall climbing area or from the café viewing area.
Yes. Photos are permitted but we ask that you respect other climbers/parents.
We have an excellent café – The Social Climber – with lots of seating, and there are other places to sit and relax. You could consider taking a yoga class in our studio.
Yes, there is allocated free parking at the centre. At busy times, you may need to park on the street or at nearby Pay and Display car parks.
We have a cafe-bar in the bouldering where you can get a range of refreshments and snacks.
There are lockers at the centre where you can leave valuables and non-valuables.
Yes, there is wheelchair access throughout the centre the ground floor of the centre.
Our fun wall is only part of the climbing facilities at The Climbing Experience, Kent’s largest indoor climbing facility. Access to the bouldering areas is not included in your fun wall session price but we can offer bouldering intro sessions, if you are interested. An intro session in the bouldering area is £25.00pp and lasts for one hour – full instruction and supervision is given for all climbing wall activities, we also offer taster sessions for the whole family to enjoy. We offer a full range of children’s clubs if your children have enjoyed their fun wall experience and want to get more involved in climbing.
